Important information about changes to the export of goods to the USA
On the 30th of July, the United States Government announced a new Executive Order which outlined further changes to customs obligations and processes for goods being imported into the USA. You can read more information about the Executive Order here.
From the 29th August, the duty-free de minimis is being suspended, which means the way in which you currently send things to the USA will change.
These changes affect all customers and carriers who export goods to the USA and are currently expected to come into effect on the 29th of August 2025.
Key points of what we understand about the US Executive Order
Jersey Post is temporarily suspending sending all goods to the USA from Monday 25th August.
The last day we will accept goods to be sent to the USA is on Saturday 23rd August. As all goods with value must in future have duties paid before shipping to the US, Jersey Post cannot accept goods for delivery to USA until it has implemented an approved collection system for duties.
This only affects goods, so you can continue to send letters and documents as usual.
These changes are not unique to Jersey Post and affect all countries and operators sending items to the USA. We are working hard to implement a compliant shipping solution to collect, process and pay for duties upfront in place as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your patience whilst we work to find a solution for our customers.
