In this magical writing competition, your story takes the form of a letter. Imagine writing to a dragon, a best friend from the future, a pirate on the high seas, or even a pet dog who suddenly learns how to write back! The challenge is to write an imaginative letter that tells a story in 500 words or less – it could be exciting, funny, mysterious or full of adventure.
Please ensure you have read the Terms and conditions before entering the competition.
Open to ages 5 to 11 years, there are three age categories for the competition – 5-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-11 years. The winner of each category will receive a writing bundle, and all entries will also receive stamps as a thank you for entering the competition.
Entry forms can be downloaded and printed via the link above; or parents can pick one up at all 13 Post Offices or at the Jersey Library (St Helier and Communicare branches). There are special Post Boxes at Broad Street and Rue des Pres Post Offices and at library branches to post your entry – or you can post it free of charge in any Post Box around the island.
Jersey Post is proud to support Jersey Library’s “Help We Need A Story” event for children aged 4 to 8 years on Saturday 20th and Saturday 27th September at St Helier and Communicare branches. Come along and listen to a special story time – write your own story, design your own book cover and colour a picture of Artie the macaque and his jungle friends! Free tickets are available from the link below.
Our panel will be chaired by local children’s author Penny Byrne, who has written over 15 books, some of which are stocked at Broad Street and Rue des Pres Post Offices. She’ll be supported by Nicola Mackereth, Programme Manager from Every Child Our Future, a charity that aims to improve educational opportunities for island children. She was previously a teacher and worked in schools and nurseries for 26 years. Rachel Selby is one of our posties and a former teacher. Sophia Cottier works in our Marketing team and is a former journalist.
